Barbara: Better
Than Ever
Barbara
came to Kindred Hospital Fort Worth Southwest for medical management and
rehabilitation. She arrived on May 11, transferred from the short-term acute
care hospital that initially admitted her for shortness of breath and edema.
Upon
evaluation by Kindred’s rehab team, Barbara was able to get to the edge of the
bed with the help of two people and stand briefly with the same level of
assistance.
Before her hospitalization Barbara had been able to walk very short
distances, approximately 10 feet, with much difficulty. She preferred using her
wheelchair at home and electric scooters when out.
After working with Kindred’s
physical therapists, Barbara began to walk further than she had at home before
her hospitalization.
Upon
discharge to her home on Memorial Day, Barbara was able to walk 120 feet with a
rolling walker, stopping only twice! The Kindred team was proud that Barbara
achieved something she had not been able to do in quite some time.
