Dear Anna,
Since I was unable to see you before my mother, Velma, was discharged from Kindred Hospital Fort Worth Southwest on April 17, I wanted to write to express our family's appreciation for the overall excellent care your nursing staff provided her while she was hospitalized there. Since I was not able to stay around with her much while she was there, I did not have the opportunity to meet any of your therapists to observe therapy either. As a result, I do not know any specific names to praise, but according to Mom, there were many.
During my career I have witnessed many healthcare providers essentially "check off" elderly patients as simply being too old to treat. Looking at my mother, one would probably jump to that conclusion, except she has always been mentally clear. Thanks to your facility working with her, she was able to return home as "healthy" as she was before she became ill with pneumonia...for that we are all grateful.
I appreciate your agreeing to accept and treat her at Kindred despite not expecting to need a 25-day stay (we made 18!). I fully believe that had she been put in a skilled nursing facility, she probably would not have been able to return home. I never dreamed that the recent meeting we had with you would lead to having a family member treated in your facility. Again, my heartfelt thanks for your help. If I can help you in any way in the future, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
Cindy Vickers, RN
